Improv workshops with UCB legend Billy Merritt

Hi guys, We’re welcoming back a wonderful teacher from UCB NYC and LA, Billy Merritt. Billy’s been with UCB since the early days and is an incredible teacher, performer and lover of sandwiches. Seriously. Few people love sandwiches like Billy.

## Wed 8th – Pirates, Robots Ninjas
This workshops refines and defines your analytical side [Robot], and combines it with your creative side [Pirate], to help you become a well balanced Improviser [Ninja]. This workshop is super fun.


## Thursday 9th – How to Listen
This workshop focuses on the most important skill needed to improvise, listening. Learn to listen not only with your ears, but your eyes and your body. This workshop is open to all levels.

## Friday 10th – Advanced Gameplay
Once you know game, what do you do with it? Learn how to play primary game, with secondary games, within the same scene.

## Saturday 11-12th – The Documentary
An Improvised Documentary in the style of Christopher Guest and Errol Morris. This class will focus on improvised interviews and scenes, taking you into the lives of the characters created, as well as the actual documentarians themselves. The form focuses on scene work, stage technique, and a presentational/representational connection to the audience.


## Wednesday 15th – Better Monoscenes
Want to do better Monoscenes? Or just be comfortable in scenes that aren’t going to be edited in 3 minutes? This is the workshop for you.

## Sunday 19th – Coaching workshop
Looking to start coaching improv teams? Learn from one of the best. Billy will cover coaching styles, specific exercises to help specific problems, and why certain exercises are helpful for building dynamite improv teams.

Ideal for new and existing coaches

Billy Merritt has been a Performer, Teacher, and Director with the UCB Theatre since it first opened in New York. He was a founding member of improv groups The Swarm and The Stepfathers in New York, and The Smokes in Los Angeles. He has developed and performed in numerous hit shows throughout his tenure at the UCB such as The Sunshine Gang, Piledriver, My Dinner with Billy, and Brain Town to name a few. As a teacher Billy has developed many improvised longforms with his students, in advanced classes, such as, The Documentary, Improvised One Acts, and the Ninja.
