Michael Delaney, one of the most senior and well-respected improv teachers at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade in New York is coming to London and will be teaching a one day scenework masterclass on Sunday 24 August.
Michael Delaney has been acting, writing and directing comedy in NYC for over 20 years. He is a founding member of legendary teams The Swarm and The Stepfathers and is a frequent guest on the Improv 4 Humans podcast. He has taught at UCB since 1999 in long form improv and sketch comedy writing, and is an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s film department.
Michael’s workshop with focus on scenework, supporting your scene partner and respecting reality. Improv cannot work unless the actors invest their scenes with reality. Conversely, once the actors are confident in themselves and each other to respect reality, improv becomes much simpler and joyful. Whilst the workshop will focus on scenes, it will be helpful in the wider context of Harolds, monoscenes and other long-forms. A basic understanding of long-form improv, scenework, game and forms such as the Harold will be helpful.
